Director of Finance and Operations (100%)
The Freies Gymnasium Basel (FG Basel) is a prestigious private school that has been providing first-class education from kindergarten to the Swiss Maturität since its founding in 1889. With around 300 students and approximately 100 staff members, our school offers a family-like environment while maintaining high expectations for both educators and learners. As a private association, the school operates under entrepreneurial principles as a non-profit organization.
Due to the retirement of the current postholder, we are looking for a Director of Finance and Operations (100%) starting September 1, 2026, or by agreement.
Core Responsibilities
- Support the Managing Director with your expertise in finance and accounting and represent him when necessary.
- Contribute to the strategic and operational leadership of our school.
- Report to the board of the association of Freies Gymnasium Basel.
Your Responsibilities
- Personnel, organizational, and professional leadership of the Finance and Operations department.
- Budgeting, liquidity planning, multi-year financial framework, and preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Financial accounting, including invoicing and dunning management.
- Controlling, financial analysis, management of KPI tools, supervision of internal controls.
- Comprehensive personnel and payroll administration.
- Contact with customers and other contract partners, auditing body, brokers, and insurance (entire social sector).
- Administration of the welfare foundation and the scholarship foundation of FG Basel.
- Direct supervision of the head of cafeteria and the head of technical services.
Your Profile
- Degree in business administration, preferably at the level of federal diploma in accounting and controlling.
- Expertise and experience in HR management and finance/accounting (e.g., internal controls, controlling, budgeting, payroll accounting).
- Several years of management experience, preferably in a school environment.
- Customer-oriented, professional demeanor and enjoyment of collaboration with people.
- Strong organizational, conceptual, and analytical skills.
- Independent, structured, and reliable work style.
- High resilience, teamwork ability, initiative, and hands-on mentality.
